Thornton Waterville Valley Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) |
The T-WV CERT mission is to provide support to our local first responders. Per their direction, the CERT may perform detailed tasks that come up during emergency situations, such as traffic control, communications, supply runs, etc., which will free the first responders to perform their primary mission. The CERT operates under the oversight of the T-WV Citizen Corps Council (T-WV CCC) that has members to include: elected officials, first responders, faith based organizations, the Red Cross, the local schools, and interested town citizens. Funding is provided by the Department of Homeland Security through a grant application process, with management control by Volunteer New Hampshire. All CERT members receive a 20 hour block of instruction that includes: basic first aid, CPR, AED, fire suppression, terrorism, team organization and incident command, disaster preparedness, disaster psychology, and search and rescue. Supplemental training has included Red Cross shelter operations, traffic control, GPS use, and cold weather operations. The CERT has also conducted table top exercises to help refine its response and team organization capabilities. The CERT is not designed or trained to perform first responder missions; its primary role is to provide supplemental manpower to those organizations in times of emergency response, and will always work under the direction of the Incident Commander on the scene.
The Action Plan (Charter) for the T-WV CCC and the Standard Operating Guidance (SOG) for the T-WV CERT can be found under the Minutes and Other Documents Link
